It has become known that the Hamas group may release soldier Edan Alexander.
He has dual citizenship of the United States and Israel, and he has been in the captivity of militants since October 2023.
It is known that the soldier will be released as part of ceasefire efforts in the Gaza Strip after Hamas talks with US representatives in Qatar.
He may be released from captivity in the coming days, the family of 21-year-old Alexander said. Media reports say it could happen as early as Monday.
In March, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East Steve Whitkoff said that Alexander’s release was a top priority for the White House.
At the time, Hamas also said it was ready to return the hostage, but that has not happened.
In a joint statement, Egypt and Qatar, which along with the US are mediating the talks between Israel and Hamas, called the decision “a goodwill gesture and a step toward returning to the negotiating table.”
