Godfather virus hacks banking apps on Android

A new version of Godfather malware for Android poses a serious threat to users of banking and financial applications around the world.

This is reported by Bleeping Computer.

The virus uses a unique tactic of creating isolated virtual environments on mobile devices to steal sensitive data and conduct unauthorized transactions.

According to Zimperium, which analyzed the threat, Godfather runs legitimate applications inside a controlled virtual environment.

This allows the malware to spy on user activity, intercept credentials, and manipulate transactions in real time while maintaining a complete visual cloak.

The user sees the normal application interface, unaware of the hidden activity.

The mechanism of action resembles the tactics of another malware, FjordPhantom, but Godfather significantly expands its capabilities.

It uses a full-fledged virtual file system and intercepts system calls.
