Fishermen off the coast of Alaska found an object that American officials believe may be a spy balloon, CNN reports.
The object will be sent to the FBI’s Quantico laboratory for analysis, as was done with previous surveillance balloons.
Fishermen provided photos of the balloon to law enforcement after they came across it.
It was not clear exactly what the object was, but the FBI decided it looked enough like a surveillance balloon belonging to a foreign government to warrant further investigation, according to three CNN sources.
Talk of surveillance balloons intensified last year when a Chinese spy balloon flew over the continental United States.
This balloon entered US territory through Alaskan airspace.
