It is known that Telegram creator Pavel Durov was arrested at Le Bourget airport after his arrival from Azerbaijan.
His arrest was first reported by the French news channel LCI.
Durov was shown a search warrant issued by OFMIN (small office) of France’s national judicial police department based on a preliminary investigation.
According to French TV channel TF1, the warrant against the Telegram founder was issued because Durov has not cooperated with French law enforcement officials.
This makes him an accomplice to drug trafficking and other serious crimes.
Pavel Durov will be held in custody until his trial, which will take place today or tomorrow.
Durov could face charges of money laundering and promoting terrorism, among others.
Durov was in Baku at the same time as Putin, but there was no record of their meeting.
Durov is also due to be questioned over suspicions of wiretapping Macron’s manager through the secure Telegram network.
Amid news of Pavel Durov’s arrest in France, shares of the cryptocurrency TON, which is used in Telegram, began to fall sharply.
