Do UFOs Come from the Ocean?

Unidentified flying objects have fascinated people around the world for decades. A major new study that examined more than 80,000 official UFO reports has uncovered a surprising pattern that challenges conventional thinking.

The objects appear far more frequently near steep underwater cliffs and trenches on the ocean floor close to the United States. This discovery gives strong support to the theory that many UFOs may originate from beneath the sea rather than from distant space. As reported by Science XXI.

How the Study Was Conducted

Independent researcher Antoni Wędzikowski compared every sighting report with detailed seafloor maps from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and data from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC).

The results were unmistakable: the highest concentration of sightings is located along the West Coast, especially around La Jolla Canyon, Mugu Canyon, and the massive Monterey Canyon. Almost no similar clusters appear on the East Coast or in the Gulf of Mexico.

This strong connection to complex underwater topography suggests the objects may be emerging directly from the ocean depths. The researcher stresses that these geographic patterns have nothing to do with population density and therefore deserve serious scientific attention.

Military Encounters and the USO Phenomenon

The US military has documented numerous cases where unknown craft move seamlessly from air into water. One of the most famous incidents involved the “Tic Tac” object near the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz in 2004, where the craft displayed incredible agility exactly off the California coast, close to these underwater canyons.

The concept of USO (Unidentified Submersible Objects) is gaining more attention every year. According to the Enigma app, which collects UFO and USO reports, over 9,000 such incidents have been logged near US waters since August 2025.

The highest numbers come from California and Florida. Experts believe a possible underwater base may exist near Catalina Island, where nearly 400 USO events have already been recorded.

What This Means for Us

While the study itself does not prove an oceanic origin for UFOs, the statistical patterns are too consistent to ignore. Some scientists link these phenomena to extraterrestrial civilizations using Earth’s oceans as a hiding place, while others suspect advanced secret military technology.

Former senior US Navy officials have already spoken publicly about the potential national security threat. These findings could completely reshape our understanding of the world and force deeper exploration of the ocean floor.
