South Korean investigators have asked the court to arrest former President Yun Seok-yol in the case of his brief imposition of martial law.
This was reported by the Yonhap News agency.
A team of investigators, said they took this step because of Yoon’s refusal to appear for three preliminary summonses for questioning.
The warrant request was filed with the Seoul Western District Court on Sunday night.
Investigators accuse Yoon of allegedly leading a rebellion and abusing his authority by declaring martial law on Dec. 3.
They said Yoon ordered troops into the National Assembly to prevent lawmakers from voting on the decree.
Yoon Seok-yol himself denied all the allegations, calling the declaration of martial law an “act of governance” aimed at warning the opposition party against “abusing legislative power.”
Yoon Gap Gun, the former president’s lawyer, vowed to challenge the investigation.
“This is a request by an agency that has no authority to investigate sedition charges,” Gun told Yonhap reporters, adding to take ‘formal measures’ in response.
