US President Joe Biden has raised $28 million in Los Angeles for his campaign for re-election to office.
Biden arrived in Los Angeles from the G7 summit in Italy, skipping the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland.
Fundraisers in California for his campaign include former US President Barack Obama, as well as actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
The fundraiser was the largest in Democratic Party history, eclipsing Biden’s previous campaign finance record.
In March of this year, Radio City Music Hall in New York City managed to raise $26 million.
Biden’s campaign finance chief, Rufus Gifford, said they wanted to build on the success in New York.
They aimed to create something similar on the West Coast. People are excited, and we were able to exceed our own expectations.
Biden had accumulated a $70 million cash advantage at the beginning of the year, but Donald Trump is quickly raising funds to catch up, attracting Republican donors.
Trump claims to have received a surge in fundraising after Trump’s criminal conviction, which his supporters consider “politically motivated.”
According to the poll, Trump has a national lead over Biden of 1.1 percent, as well as an advantage in states that will determine the outcome of the election.
