The USA may allow Ukraine to use US weapons for strikes against facilities in the Russian Federation.
The previous day, this issue was discussed in the US House of Representatives.
Michael McCaul said that the ban on the use of US weapons for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation “ties the Ukrainians’ hands”.
Adding that the Russians are putting their artillery just over the border and striking Ukrainian positions.
The Congress also showed a map of Russia with a possible strike zone for U.S. missiles already in Ukraine’s possession.
The map has markings with possible targets for attack.
Judging by the highlighted zone, Novorossiysk, Rostov-on-Don, Taganrog, Belgorod, Kursk, Voronezh, Bryansk and other regions of Russia could be under the threat of a strike.
“Will you change this policy so that Ukraine can go to war with its hands not tied behind its back?” McCaul addressed U.S. State Department Chief Anthony Blinken.
The New York Times quoted a source as saying that after a “sobering visit” to Kiev, Blinken favors easing restrictions on Kiev’s use of U.S. weapons.
At the State Department’s initiative, there is an active debate over allowing American weapons to hit Russian missile and artillery installations near the border.
It is reported that the proposal is “in the formative stages” and it is still unclear whether the Biden administration will support it.
The idea has not yet been officially proposed to the U.S. president.
