Fascinating but Strange

Archaeologists have found an ancient Roman shoe 2000 years old

Archaeologists in England found 2000-year-old Roman shoes, surprising them with their condition, writes the New York Post.

The shoes, which lay underground for about two millennia, surprised archaeologists with their preservation.

Photos published by the Roman Army Museum show an archaeologist holding leather shoes that have almost completely retained their shape.

“This gives us a great insight into how Roman shoes were made: the soul consisted of several layers of leather, held together by leather laces, stitching, and nails,” the museum said.

Soon a second shoe was also found – much larger in size. Its size is UK 12-14 or US 14. This find caused immediate admiration among the excavation participants.

For other archaeologists, the find was not just an artifact, but a personal encounter with people who lived two thousand years ago.

“It’s always exciting to find objects that no one has touched for 2,000 years, but it’s the shoes that seem like something particularly personal,” the archaeologists shared their emotions.
