Its discovery became important evidence that Christian communities in ancient times existed on a much larger territory than previously thought.

The tablet depicts a stepped pyramid symbolizing Golgotha, with leaves stretching from its base – a rare element of early Christian iconography.

A fingerprint of the master who made the artifact is preserved on the reverse side. Researchers believe that the cross was used by monks in rituals in the VII-VIII centuries.

By the technique of execution, it resembles similar objects found in Iraq and Kuwait, indicating widespread Christian traditions in the region.

Experts call the find one of the most important archaeological discoveries of recent years.

The find sheds light on a little-known page of the history of early Christianity in the Arabian Gulf.
