Archaeologists have discovered a new pyramidal structure located near the sacred city of Caral-Supe in the valley of Supe, in Peru.
This is reported by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture.
This discovery is a quadrangular building with a central staircase leading to the top.
It is decorated with large vertical stones, which are believed to have served not only a structural but also a ceremonial function.
In addition, archaeologists discovered 12 public and ceremonial buildings distributed over small hills.
They surround a central square, indicating the existence of a small urban center with public and private functions.
Three superimposed platforms as well as massive vertical stones were found in the walls of the pyramid.
They were used by the Incas to reinforce the structures and give them symbolic meaning.
These architectural structures were erected by a punitive civilization that flourished in ancient Peru from about 3000 to 1800 BC.
Caral is considered one of the oldest and most advanced Andean civilizations, excelling in agriculture, architecture and social organization.
All this happened despite the lack of a written language, thanks to a complex social hierarchy and an extensive trade network.
