An astronomer from Japan was able to capture the moment of falling of a mysterious object on the Moon.
It was probably a meteor from the stream Geminidae. About it reports FLScienceI.
For the first time, meteor stream Geminids seen from Earth in the 1800s. It is an unusual star fall that is formed by the remnants of an asteroid with the properties of a comet.
The meteor stream is active from December 4 to December 20, and it peaks on December 13-14.
There is speculation that the stream may contain large, potentially dangerous objects, but most of the meteors burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere.
But as images obtained by Daichi Fuji, an astronomer and curator at the Hiratsuka Museum in Japan, have shown, some of them may fall on the moon.
The astronomer was also able to capture images of other meteors that had fallen to the moon on previous nights.
Although Geminids are the most likely explanation for the origin of the mysterious object, it cannot be stated unequivocally.
