An unknown disease has already taken the lives of more than 140 people
It became known that an unknown disease in Congo has already taken the lives of more than 140 local residents. Reuters reports.
The outbreak of an unknown disease was recorded in the province of Kwango. From November 10 to November 25, it took the lives of at least 143 people.
The main symptoms include fever, headache, cough, and anemia.
They are similar to COVID-19 and influenza, but run much more aggressively, leading to high mortality rates.
Local doctors cannot make a definitive diagnosis and are afraid to enter the homes of the sick. The overwhelming number of those sickened are women and children.
The World Health Organization is already aware of the outbreak and is working with local health authorities.
However, recommendations have not yet been made public. Kwango residents are being urged to avoid contact with the bodies of the dead.
This year, Congo has also been hit by an outbreak of monkeypox, from which more than 540 people have already died in the country.
