Adolf Hitler Uunona Wins Re-Election for the Fifth Time in Namibia 2025

— Namibian politician Adolf Hitler Uunona has once again secured a landslide victory in the 2025 regional and local elections.

The 59-year-old representative of the ruling SWAPO party won more than 84% of the vote in Oshana constituency (formerly known as Ompundja), northern Namibia.

Why Does a Namibian Politician Have the Name Adolf Hitler?

Adolf Hitler Uunona has served as councillor of Oshana constituency since 2004. He has repeatedly explained that his father gave him the name in the 1960s — long before Namibia’s independence — without understanding its historical meaning.

At the time, Namibia (then South West Africa) was administered by apartheid South Africa, which had inherited many German colonial names and influences.

Uunona has stressed in numerous interviews: “I have nothing to do with Nazi ideology, the Holocaust, or the Third Reich. My wife calls me Adolf, colleagues call me Igor, and in official documents I use Adolf H. Uunona.”

2025 Election Results: Why Do Voters Still Support Him?

Despite some criticism over slow infrastructure development (poor roads, water shortages, and electricity problems), Uunona remains extremely popular. Key reasons for his continued success:
