A U.S. citizen is fighting on the side of Russia
Wilmer Puello-Mota, an American from Massachusetts, is fighting on the side of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation.
He was a deputy of the council of the city of Holyoke and was a member of the US National Guard. In late February, he planted an American flag over the ruins of the Ukrainian town of Avdeevka.
He is suspected of a sex crime in the US. Intimate photos of a 17-year-old girl were found in Wilmer Puello-Mota’s phone.
He was arrested for this back in 2020, but did not admit guilt, claiming that the girl introduced herself as a 22-year-old.
In January 2024, he was due to appear in an American court, but, according to The Telegraph, he flew via Turkey to Russia on January 7, where he enlisted in the Russian army.
He reportedly signed a contract at a recruiting station in Russia’s Khanty-Mansiysk, it was officially reported.
He is seen in footage of a U.S. flag being planted on the ruins of the city. This video was circulated by Russian telegram channels in late February.
Although the face in the video was blurred, Massachusetts newspaper The Republican identified the American by his voice.
