Fascinating but Strange

A new way to shorten the time of flight to Mars has been found. It allows reducing the flight time to 90 or 104 days using existing technologies

A new way to reduce the time of flight to Mars

It became known that the American scientist Jack Kingdon from the University of California proposed a new method of flight to Mars.

It allows you to reduce the future time of flight to Mars to 90 or 104 days using existing technologies.

Such a revolutionary method is two to three times faster than current Mars missions. The study was published in the scientific journal Scientific Reports.

The scientist used a mathematical algorithm to calculate the optimal trajectories that allow the Starship from SpaceX to reach Mars in record time.

The first option involves a launch on April 30, 2033, with a 90-day flight and return to Earth on July 2, 2035.

The second option is a launch on July 15, 2035, with a 104-day transit. Both scenarios use periodic alignment of Earth and Mars, minimizing fuel costs.

“Starship could reach Mars in three months. The main advantage is the absence of the need for nuclear reactors, which are still technically and politically challenging,” the specialist explained.

He also recommends refueling in low Earth orbit using tankers, which would allow Starship to conserve fuel for the return maneuver.

The cargo ships will carry equipment to Mars to produce fuel from local carbon dioxide and water ice, although the technology has not yet been tested in real-world conditions.

The scientist notes that success depends on solving several challenges, including improving Starship performance after test flights.

It is also necessary to accelerate the development of life support and orbital refueling systems and the creation of infrastructure for the production of fuel on Mars.
