It became known that Chinese scientists have developed new technologies for generating and storing electricity.
The atmosphere of Mars will be used for this purpose, reports the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This is an important step towards the creation of sustainable Martian bases and long-term missions.
Researchers have proposed using the Martian atmosphere as a working environment for thermal generators.
Given that the atmosphere of Mars is 95% carbon dioxide, this solution allows not only to use local resources, but also to significantly improve the efficiency of energy systems.
Compared to traditional inert gases such as helium and xenon, the Martian atmosphere provides:
20% increase in generation efficiency,
a 14% increase in maximum power density.
This approach reduces the need for fuel delivery from Earth and makes power supply to Martian facilities more autonomous.
Scientists have also developed the concept of a “Martian battery” capable of using the planet’s atmosphere to store energy.
This system combines electrical, thermal, and solar energy to provide uninterrupted power to research devices.
The tests were conducted under conditions that mimic the Martian environment and temperature variations between day and night.
