A mysterious object in the Sahara Desert
A recent Google Maps image showing a ‘flying saucer’-shaped object in the Algerian Sahara has sparked a wave of conspiracy theories, the Daily Mail reports.
Some social media users believe it could be the remains of an alien craft, which, according to UFO hunter Scott Waring, has supposedly been there for over 21,000 years, judging by the thickness of the sand.
However, scientists and seasoned researchers were quick to refute these speculations. They claim that the mysterious object could be an ordinary concrete base for a wind turbine.
Its round shape with a central dome is easily misleading, causing associations with UFOs. In addition, another similar structure at a more advanced stage of construction can be seen nearby.
This explanation was also confirmed by Nick Pope, a former UFO investigator for the UK Ministry of Defense.
He noted that most likely, this is an ordinary infrastructure construction. And the development of artificial intelligence makes it difficult to verify the veracity of the images.
Algeria is now investing heavily in renewable energy, planning to cover 27% of its energy consumption from renewable sources, including wind power, by 2035.
So the appearance of such foundations in the desert is not a sensation but part of the energy development strategy.
Ufologists, in particular skeptic Mick West, emphasize that such ‘discoveries’ only harm the serious study of possible contacts with extraterrestrial life forms, reducing the discourse to the level of fake news and myths.
