It became known that archaeologists during excavations in Jerusalem managed to find a bronze coin, the age of which is two thousand years.
The coin was minted shortly before the destruction of the Second Temple, an event that Jesus predicted and described in the Bible, reports the Daily Mail.
The piece says the coin dates between 69 and 70 AD, just a few decades after Jesus’ crucifixion.
It was minted by Jewish rebels during the fourth year of the Great Revolt against the Romans, the authors write.
There are references in the Gospels to Jesus predicting the destruction of the Temple. Specifically, the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke say he predicted that “not one stone upon another” would be left standing.
These words are seen as a prophecy of the destruction of the Temple by the Romans in 70 AD.
The coin itself is a powerful symbol. On its obverse can be seen an inscription in Hebrew: “For the liberation of Zion.”
This message is believed to express the aspirations of the rebels in the final days of the uprising.
